HONOR

Ma, Li-Shan

At Chung Yuan Christian University, one professor firmly believes that every individual possesses inherent and unquestionable value that should not be defined by others.
Dr. Li-Shan Ma of the Department of Electrical Engineering encourages students to pursue development that matches their strengths and character, and he strives to appreciate their abilities from multiple perspectives. Guided by this philosophy, his mentorship covers professional guidance, career planning, and international exposure. To many students, he is not only an academic advisor but also a mentor for life.

Expanding Students’ Horizons Through Diverse Career Pathways

In a highly specialized field like electrical engineering, many students naturally imagine their future only in traditional high-tech industries. Dr. Ma works to broaden these views by presenting a much wider range of career possibilities.
He frequently invites alumni to share experiences from public enterprises, private technology companies, and even the education sector.
To strengthen global perspectives, he supports internships at Kansai University, organizes sharing sessions with students who studied in Germany, and hosts seminars on overseas graduate studies. He also leads visits to major technology companies, giving students firsthand exposure to industry developments.

Warm, Attentive, and Whole-Person Care

What impresses students most is Dr. Ma’s gentle and detailed care. He sees education as more than the transfer of knowledge; it is also acceptance, encouragement, and support. Through regular group meetings and one-on-one conversations, he builds sincere and trusting relationships with students.
In class group chats, he interacts with humor and approachability, even using popular internet memes to stay connected with the younger generation.
He also provides timely support by actively sharing useful information such as professional training programs, scholarships, government grants, and university resources. Working with class assistants, he ensures that every student receives important opportunities at the right moment.

A Philosophy Centered on Personal Worth

In an environment often focused on grades and job titles, Dr. Ma encourages students to remember a deeper truth:
A person’s worth comes from who they are, not from what they possess.
He teaches that every student is valuable because of their identity, character, and potential, rather than their achievements or titles. Through consistent guidance and care, he inspires students to discover their strengths, express their unique qualities, and become active creators of their own future.
His mentoring practices all come from this enduring commitment to the true value of each student.
