周宇琪 Chou,Yu-Chi

把每一位學生都當成自家小孩看待的周宇琪老師,與學生互動亦師如母,不僅在知識的傳承上,盡力給予學生最豐富的資源,也以行動支持學生參與的各項校內外活動。宇琪老師認為,導師的責任不僅止於關懷和陪伴,在學生的成長軌跡上輔助他發現自身獨特之處,也很重要!

Professor Chou treats every student as her own child, interacting with them as both a teacher and a mother, not only imparting knowledge, but also devoting to providing students with the most abundant resources, and actively supporting their participation in various school and extracurricular activities. Professor Chou believes that the responsibility of a mentor not only ends with care and companionship, but assisting students in discovering their unique qualities throughout their growth trajectories is also very important!

最舒坦的距離就是用父母心對待學生

如何不著痕跡地給予關懷,是周宇琪老師一直小心琢磨的事。「通常我會透過多元管道來增進與學生們之間的情誼。每學期有固定的小組導生會面聚餐,以餐敘來拉近距離,也進而熟知每一位同學的團體歸屬和互動關係,至於不固定方式我則採用最簡短的下課十分鐘,和學生們閒聊之餘,也不會營造出太刻意關心他們的氛圍。」宇琪老師笑著說明自己如何從家長角度,經營班級情感。

面對現今學生的自主與獨立,周宇琪老師總適度保留談話空間讓師生關係可以保持得更彈性,學生也會更願意主動找老師尋求協助。不論是個別的學習狀況還是學生們群體之間的連結,抑或是需要特別留意、為其建立情緒出口的同學,周老師始終散發著溫暖親切的個人特質,幫助學生媒合更好的資源平台,並相信透過多元管道的努力來維持學生們健康的心理狀態,一定比自己獨善其身更有效果!

The most comfortable distance is treating students with the hearts of parents

Professor Chou carefully contemplates how to show care subtly without leaving a trace. “I would usually enhance rapport with students through diverse channels. I would organize regular small group mentoring dinners every semester to foster closeness and better understand each student’s group affiliations and interactions. As for irregular approaches, I would adopt brief, informal chats with students during the ten-minute session breaks without creating an ambiance of caring too much.” Professor Chou explained with a smile how she manages classroom emotions from a parental perspective.

Facing the autonomy and independence of students nowadays, Professor Tsai always maintains adequate space for conversation to allow the teacher-student relationship to remain more flexible, where students would also be more willing to actively seek assistance from her. Whether it’s individual learning needs, connections among students, or students who require special attention and emotional outlet, Professor Chou always gives out warm and kind personal characteristics, helping students match with better resource platforms, and believes that maintaining students’ mental health through diverse channels is more effective than working alone!

事件堆疊造就個人印象也成就個人價值

「每個學生的細微蛻變對我來說都是印象深刻的事。」周宇琪老師認為,每個人物都是經過一點一滴點的事件拼湊而成,在時間裡堆疊出他人心中的模樣,進而從一層層平面的回憶中逐漸立體。在傾向主動、正面的社會中,相對同儕較內向的同學就容易被貼上「省話」、「孤僻」的標籤,但周老師就發現這些相處起來較冷的同學們,反而更能記住導師宣導的內容。除此之外,周老師還會將觀察輸出成讚美,一句「原來你有把我的話放在心裡耶!」就能讓同學們身上的標籤慢慢褪色。「每位學生的個性不同,但也因如此而造就不一樣的美好,順應本質來增強他們的個人特色,將有助於導生適性發展出自己的一片天。」講出這句話的同時,周老師笑說:「我這個導師角色也是學生們一個個的印象組成的呀!」

看著一屆一屆的學生們進入就業職場,周宇琪老師發現在領域上有所成就的同學,不見得是當時在校成績優異的那一群,反而在求學期間就足夠了解自我,懂得每一件所學所做的意義與價值,並從經驗中汲取養分的學生,更能創造出意想不到的成就。因此周老師時常勉勵學生找出每個活動的亮點和參與的目的,當自覺變深刻時,很多事情的價值可能會逐漸浮現!「期許每一位同學在求學中都有穩定的友伴關係、與社會的正向連結以及堅強的心理韌性,便無須憂慮畢業後的職場生活,因為你們一定可以做得很好!」周老師肯定地說。

Experience accumulation shapes personal impressions and contributes to personal value

“Every student’s subtle transformation is deeply impressive to me.” Professor Chou believes that every person’s character is built through the accumulation of small events, gradually shaping how others see them over time, which then forms a three-dimensional image from layers of memories. In a society that tends to be active and positive, students who are more introverted when compared to other peers may easily be labeled as “reserved” or “withdrawn”. However, Professor Chou discovered that these students who may seem more distant in social interactions can often remember the content advocated by the mentor more effectively. Moreover, Professor Chou would also transform her observations into praises, where a sentence such as “So you’ve been keeping my words in mind!” can make the labels on students gradually fade away. “The personality of each student differs, which contributes to different wonderfulness, and embracing their qualities to enhance their individual traits will help guide the trainees towards developing their own potential.” While saying this, Professor Chou smiled and said: “My role as a mentor is also shaped by each student’s impressions of me!”

Watching students enter the workforce year after year, Professor Chou has observed that students who excel in their fields are not necessarily those who had outstanding academic grades during their school days, but students who understood themselves well enough during their academic journey, who grasped the meaning and value of everything they learned and did, and who gained from their experiences are often the ones who can create unexpected accomplishments. Therefore, Professor Chou often encourages students to discover the highlights and objectives of each activity. When they become more self-aware, the value of many things may then gradually become apparent! “I expect each student to have stable friendships, positive connections with society, and strong psychological resilience during their academic journey, and then there is no need to worry about their career lives after graduation because you all can surely do well!” Professor Chou said with confidence.
