The roots of the Center of Institutional Research and Accreditation were set in place in 2012 when its organizational operations first became active. In 2013, the Center of Institutional Research was established and quickly adapted into the Center of Institutional Research and Accreditation. In 2014, further adjustments took place and the center became a class 1 administrative unit with an institutional research consultation committee, under the Office of the President, commissioned to provide professional advice.

Personnel and Organization

Currently, the Center of Institutional Research and Accreditation is staffed by a 5 member team. Professor Bao-jinn Wang serves as the director of the center and is responsible for planning institutional development, providing direction for the center’s own development and developing relevant implementation strategies. Work at the center is divided into the two categories of ‘institutional research’ and ‘higher education accreditation’.
Three of the center’s staff members are assigned to tasks related to institutional research, taking on responsibility for on- and off-campus project execution progress & funding management, building institutional research platforms, implementation & statistical analysis of institutional research projects, and building and developing the institutional research database. The two other staff members are assigned to higher education accreditation related work, taking on responsibility for institutional accreditation, department & faculty accreditation planning, promotion and testing, as well as international professional certification, university rankings and analysis.

Function

The professional capabilities of the center include:

  1. Based on our knowledge of international higher education trends, and understanding of the university’s institutional operations we are capable of conducting information extraction and providing insight on institutional research data.
  2. With vast experience in three corners of the “golden triangle”, including overall institutional development, self-evaluation of institutional performance, and assessment of institutional operations, we are equipped to provide the university with support on institutional supervisor policy decisions.
  3. Based on experience in domestic and foreign higher education professional accreditation organizations, we are able to design self-evaluation mechanisms for the university’s administrative and academic units.
  4. With in-depth research and analysis on world university ranking systems, and analysis-based understandings of the university’s strengths and weaknesses, we are ready to provide advice on how to strengthen the university’s international competitiveness.
  5. We are equipped to prepare tools of assessment for institutional research, evaluations of data collections and reports.
  6. We are capable of performing quantitative analysis for data mining purposes.
  7. We are knowledgeable in the management of data, information, knowledge and wisdom used for institutional research & accreditation purposes.

Future Plans

  1. Provide integrated analyses and research necessary for institutional supervisor policy decisions.
  2. Compile and build an institutional research database to serve as a main axis for effective student learning.
  3. Establish and share the best practices for institutional research data collection, use and interpretation.
  4. Assess and evaluate the Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) department & faculty courses to ensure progress is made in student learning.
  5. Establish and promote a self-evaluation mechanisms for administrative and academic units at the university to improve the efficiency of instructional operations.
  6. Coordinate with Ministry of Education policy by conducting a variety of institutional evaluations and meeting with supportive businesses.
  7. Assist administrative and academic units of the university in the conducting of special topic research to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  8. Publish CYCU annual performance reports to fulfill the social responsibilities of the university.
