The CYCU Students Traveled around Europe as Unofficial Diplomats with an R.O.C. National Flag

Cheng-Rong Hsieh and Man-Yun Lan, two female seniors at the Department of Business Administration, Chung Yuan Christian University, traveled to Europe with an R.O.C. national flag. On the 35-day trip to Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Austria, they introduced the beauty of Taiwan to the people they met and invited them to sign on the flag and take group pictures. More than 100 group pictures were taken by the end of the trip. The two CYCU students overcame the language barrier in foreign lands and fulfilled their dream with perseverance and courage, promoting Taiwan successfully through their unofficial diplomatic effort.

Hsieh and Lan, together with another four friends, took their fancy adventures during the summer vacation by going backpacking around Europe. On the trip, they introduced the beauty of Taiwan to foreigners, asked them to sign on an R.O.C. national flag, and took a group picture with the flag. The group pictures, where the two students were holding the R.O.C. national flag with the foreigners and which were taken at some of the most world-famous sites in Europe, such as the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre Museum, the Berlin Wall, Cologne Cathedral, the Palace of Versailles, the Amphitheatre of Pompeii, and Melk Abbey, may not only serve as witnesses to those historic sites but also record the historic moments in their lives.

By the end of the trip, 116 group photos were collected and more than 200 foreigners involved. On the trip, the students made many foreign friends from Turkey, Romania, Spain, the U.S, and other countries. Their courage and creativity have been widely acclaimed and recognized.
