Chinese Language and Culture Experience Program

Chinese Language and Culture Experience Program 2014 was held from March 2nd to March 21st, 2014, and lasted for three weeks.

A total of twenty-three Japanese students, respectively from Waseda Daigaku, Niigata University, Tokyo Denki University, and Tohoku Institute of Technology, enrolled in the program.

On the other hand, twenty-three Taiwanese students were recruited as study partners by Office of International and Cross-Strait Education, creating one-on-one interactions with and accompany the learning process of these Japanese students in the course of the program.

Another twenty-three TCSL students were recruited as teaching assistants by Center of Mandarin Learning, available for peer tutoring for Mandarin Chinese after daily routine.

This program consists of a major module (Chinese learning) and a minor one (cultures among Chinese language). By introducing Taiwanese traditional cultures (along with Hakka cultures), holding field trips and involving hands-on experience, students enrolled in the program are expected to have a thorough understanding of different cultural aspects.

As the host of the program, Office of International and Cross-Strait Education expects to increase interactions and cooperation between CYCU and sister universities in Japan, expand faculty members and students’ horizons, and increase the international visibility of our university by hosting this kind of program.

In the last week of the program, Japanese Culture Sharing Day was held by Office of International and Cross-Strait Education. The Japanese students were asked to present the universities they are studying in, alongside with the local tradition.

Also, on the day of “Final Presentation”, the students were also asked to present their learning experience in Chinese, showing it to the audience in terms of singing, drama, or puppet show. In the way, it is thus expected to enhance interactions and relationships between the faculty members and the students of CYCU.
