A Complete Success of the 2015 International Conference on Applied Material

Chung Yuan Christian University embraced the opportunity of celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the University by holding the 2015 International Conference on Applied Materials (ICAM) with large-scale events. We invited the Nobel Laureate Prof. Dr. Harald zur Hausen to present his newest finding, and many other experts and scholars from home and abroad to give talks on various professional topics.

The ICAM was hosted together by the Center for Biomedical Technology and the Center for Nano-technology at CYCU. Twenty experts and scholars attended this conference to present their works on the subjects of Tissue Engineering, Medical Diagnosis, and Drug Delivery. The presenters included Prof. Dr. Harald zur Hausen and his wife Dr. Ethel-Michele de Villiers, Prof. Hsing-Jien Kung (President, National Health Research Institute), Dr. Kuan Wang (Academician and Distinguished Research Fellow, Institute of Biological Chemistry, Academia Sinica), Dr. Lawrence L. Gan (President, Development Center for Biotechnology), Prof. Esther H. Chang (Departments of Oncology and Otolaryngology at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, Georgetown, Georgetown University), and Prof. Peter I. Lelkes (Fellow of the AIMBE, Laura H. Carnell Professor and Chair, Department of Bioengineering, College of Engineering, Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania). Their participations have connected the development of Biotechnology in Taiwan with the world, obtaining the newest information without delay.

Chung Yuan Christian University was the first university in Taiwan to establish a Department of Biomedical Engineering. Furthermore, a Center for Biomedical Technology was founded last year. It aims to use interdisciplinary resources to establish a research platform that facilitates Industry-Academy Cooperation and cultivates talented Biotech elites. Although the center has not been established for more than two years, it has obtained several large research projects from the Ministry of Science and Technology. The results of these projects, experiments, tests, and theories will be crucial for future clinical researches.
