The era of globalized information and communication has come, with tremendous impacts of communication on human lives. In particular, the developments in miniaturized communication system technology and in innovative technology of internet and multimedia have become one of the fully-committed developments in key industries for each country in the world. Based on the needs of the future industries in Taiwan, beginning in 2009, College of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (College of EE&CS) at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) integrated resources in Departments of Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Information & Computer Engineering to establish a new “Master Program in Communication Engineering (Graduate School of Research in Communication),” with the strongest faculty members and academic resources to cultivate talents in R&D in communication with professionalism, forward-looking, and creativity, to achieve the goal to help enhance the developments of communication industries in Taiwan.


Educational Goal One: To cultivate students to become talents in communication technology with professional accomplishment, sound character, dedication, and agreeableness.

Educational Goal Two: To cultivate students to learn interdisciplinary integration in information/communication technology to keep up with the up-to-date research capability of industries.

Educational Goal Three: To cultivate students to possess the capabilities for self-improvement and life-long learning, together with international perspectives.

Future Prospects

Recently, the booming developments in computer and communication industries in Taiwan have progressed rapidly; their output values have jumped to become the most important industry in Taiwan, with unlimited potentials and tremendous capacities for expansion. In addition, the founding of the National Telecom Technology Center needs substantial amounts of talents. As a result, the goal of this Master Program is to combine the industries and academics in offering necessary supports to the industries to enhance the research level, to promote the industrial programs, and to implement cultivation of talents. Moreover, the focuses of research include software, hardware, systems, and applications of communication technology. Besides the considerable foundation already achieved, the Program set the following research directions and goals:

Communication Systems:
Spread Spectrum Communications, Channel Coding and Error-Correcting Technology, Personal and Mobile Communication Systems, Adaptive Signal Processing, Coding Theory, Diversity Technology of Wireless Communication, New Generation of Wireless Communication System; Network Module Design and Chip, Integrated Circuit Design of Radio Frequency Transceiver, Integrated Circuit of Communication System, Integrated Circuit Design of Analog/Mixed Signals, Design of Very Large Scale Integration Design of Mixed Signals, Electromagnetic Effect (SI/PI) of High Speed Digital Circuit, System Packaging (SiP/SoP) and 3D-IC Electrical Characteristics/Electromagnetic Effect, Electromagnetic Compatibility/Electromagnetic Interference, Microwave Circuit, Computer Network System FPGA Prototype Design, Embedded Network Security Hardware Accelerator Design.

Audio and Video Multimedia Communication:
Wireless Multimedia Communication, Graphic Recognition, Voice Signal Processing, Image Processing, Biomedical Signal Processing, Digital Signal Processing, Image Coding and Compression.

Network Communication and Security:
Computer Network, Optimization Theory and Technology, Wireless Regional Network, Wireless Communication Network, Communication Network Protocol Design and Performance Evaluation, Wireless Resource Allocation, Broadband Internet Application, Information Security.
