INTRODUCTION

The International Program of Environmental Engineering (EE) of Graduate Courses will be set up in 2008 under the Department of Civil Engineering at Chung Yuan Christian University(CYCU).

The Environmental Engineering ( EE ) Program will be multidisciplinary program, Which integrated the faculties and facilities in Civil Engineering and Bioenvironmental ngineering at Chung Yuan Christian University ( CYCU ). The Department of Bioenvironmental Engineering (BEE) was founded in 2004 as a New CYCU academic unit, with the mission if defining and establishing a new discipline fusing Biological technique with environmental engineering. The mission of BEE is to advance the living quality of all people in Taiwan and around the world through research and training in environmental engineering.The great diversity in BEE graduates’ careers makes our students recruited by the environmental agencies, research center, consulting companies, and industry. There are 8 full-time faculties and nine adjunct professors, whose teaching and research activities focused on the following four fields: environmental molecular Biotechnology, pollution monitoring, pollution control, and resource recycling.

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in 1995 with an undergraduate program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science. Graduate programs leading to the degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy were established later in 1982 and 1996, respectively. The department had more than 8000 students graduated from its undergraduate, master, and Ph.D. programs. Excellent graduates are working in every sector and acting substantial riles in the domestic and world-wide construction industry. The department has 21 full-time faculties and a dozen adjunct professors, whose professions cover the following 4 major fields: structural engineering; geotechnical engineering; hydraulic engineering and transportation engineering. Selected full time faculties from other departments are invited as well to serve as advisers for the students admitted to our graduate programs.

BEE and Civil Engineering will offer a joint curriculum to students interested in focusing on environmental issues. The integrated EE programs reflect this emphasis on integrating civil engineering, molecular Biotechnology and environmental engineering with a systems-oriented engineering analysis and synthesis approach .With more than 25 faculty members who are leading experts committed to innovative research in a broad range of environmental areas, the EE program covers a comprehensive curriculum that provides a solid foundation on which student may work on focused research studies. Our ultimate aim is to create “integrated engineers,” or students who excel in applied engineering and qualified for developing global citizens who can apply technology to global pressing environmental problems.

Furthermore, the Bureau of Labor Statistics in USA projects that by 2014, there will be 31.2 percent more fobs for environmental engineers than there were in 2004. The Environmental Engineering (EE) Program in CYCU is just the mastermind for your future. So, welcome to join us!

Courses offered
The International Graduate Program of Environmental Engineering is associated with the Department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Bioenvironmental Engineering at CYCU. It provides graduate students water and wastewater treatment technologies, air pollution control, solid waste management, soil remediation, environmental health assessment and hydraulic engineering at both MS and Ph.D. levels. The program is supported by a series. Of courses and research projects, with emphasis on providing a key to sustainable development. These courses are taught by the selected faculties in various departments at CYCU, including Civil Engineering, Bioenvironmental Engineering and Chemical Engineering.
